The Lifeguard

Like a god
on Mount Olympus
he sits far above
the common people.

Like an arrogant god
with a perfect body
he tosses down smiles,
crumbs to the girls below.

Like a bronze god
he studies the shore
deciding who will live,
and when to be a hero.

  1. I liked this poem because it is funny. I live near the beach and i see many lifeguards acting like gods.

  2. Thanks, Camo. It sounds like you are saying: It's funny and it's true.
A poem should have the ring of truth in it, don't you think?

    1. Yes I think so. By the way I just finished Marshfield Dreams. My favorite scene was how you guys were making tripods out of logs.
