Great Blue Heron

Even when I walk up close
he pays no attention to me
as he walks along the shore
peering into shallow water
looking for some juicy crab
or unsuspecting sushi.

He looks like a dorky teacher
teaching advanced algebra,
all eyes and bones and beak,
lecturing to invisible students,
hungry for that one moment
when he will get across his
                                                point.

  1. This poem made me feel happy because he describes the heron in a different and funny way, like the dorky teacher and comparing sushi to fish. grade 4 (aes)

  2. This poem reminds me of my boring math teacher at my old school. He just gave us boring math problems. Arya, grade 4 AES

  3. This poem reminds me of when I went somewhere in India not far off from New Delhi. It reminds me of the place because when we went on a walk though the village there was a small lake and slowly walking in the water was a heron it was acting the same as the one you wrote about in the first 3 lines.- Saskia, grade 4 AES.

  4. This poem made me visualise a blue heron walking confidently (head up towards the sky) in the forest river.Walking slowly in the cold blue water, and in the same time the blue heron is pearing into the water for fish swimming in the water. (To eat the fish)
